Epilate
|
30
|
I
epilate (see the glossary for definition of what this is) my chest,
shoulders, and lower tummy. It takes about half an hour and I do it two
days before I go out. The results are not great but it's better than
forking out for waxing every few weeks. It used to hurt but now I'm
used to it and it just stings a bit.

Keys
|
2
|
I remove only the keys I need from the keyring and clip them
to my handbag. If you play with keyrings after you paint your nails it will
wreck the finish.
|
Paint toenails
|
5x5
|
Can be done at any time. I leave mine painted so I don't
have to do it on the day- no-one sees them under my socks. I do two
coats of colour plus one or two of glitter (red, blue, or rainbow) and
a shiny quick-dry topcoat to get
the effect I like. That lasts about a month; it always peels from my
left big toe first, for some reason.

Two coats of colour, one of glitter, sometimes
a UV-flourescent layer, and a quick-dry topcoat.
Requires
me to handle
things carefully for the rest of the
evening until
the polish hardens properly.

Shaving body
|
60+
|
I used to shave my legs, tummy, chest, shoulders, underarms,
and as much
of my back
as I can get to. Legs, tummy, lower half of chest I do in the bath. The
rest I do in front of the mirror. Lately I have been getting myself
waxed (at great expense) and maintaining it with a epilator, so this
step can be skipped.

Shave
legs and underarms
|
30
|
I
still shave my legs and underarms because it's quick and easy to do
yourself.
|
Remove
miscellaneous hair
|
10
|
Remove
hair from nose and ears. I do not shave my arms, but I clipper them as
short as I think I can get away with at work. I also check that there
are no
overly-long hairs on the backs on my hands, etc.
|
Up to this point, nothing is
time-sensitive. This can all be done in the afternoon for an evening
expedition, or even the day before if you really want. The next steps,
however, have to be done on the night.
|
Contact
lenses
|
10
|
I
usually wear glasses, but I'm not preapred to spend up to half an hour
doing my eyes and then cover them with glasses. Make sure you carry
eyedrops when in nightclub situations, because the lenses can easily
dry out, making them uncomfortable.

Shaving face
|
10
|
I use a Schick Quattro razor when I go out. The blades are
expensive (~A$3.50 each) but ruthlessly effective at giving me a close
shave. I use the blades for maybe 4-6 shaves each then throw them out.
I use shaving oil rather than cream; it seems to work better.
|
Foundation
|
5-10
|
Professional camoflage cream from Backstage Makeup in the
city. If I plan to wear a low-cut top, I may also put some
lesser-quality foundation on my chest to mask the stubble there.
|
Powder
|
5
|
Powder matched to the camoflage cream, colour-matched to my
skin
tone.
|
Blusher
|
2
|
Just beneath my cheekbones, and not too much of it.
|
Liquid eyeliner
|
10-
15
|
I like the slightly gothic look, so I put a thin line of
liquid eyeliner around each eye, with a Cleopatra-style swirly line on
the
outer edge of the eye and a smaller one on the inside corner. I do this
first because it's the easiest to
stuff up, but it can be removed with a wet cotton bud.

Eye shadow

|
silver above the eye, and blue,
brown, or green in the eye socket/eyelid with a
little bit more underneath the eye

Mascara

This hurts if you get it in your eyes.

Clothes

Put on whatever clothes I'm wearing.

Coffee, and some cold water

I have hot drinks before the lipstick goes on so as not to
melt it all off

Handbag check
|
2
|
Check that I've got:
- money
- coin purse
- drivers licence
- mobile phone, out of in its case so it's smaller, but wrapped in a
plastic bag so the screen doesn't get scratched
- lipstick
- tissues to blot lipstick
- eyedrops to moisten contact lenses
- cotton buds for mopping up problems when my makeup runs because of
overuse of eyedrops
- concealer for fixing major problems
- small container of loose powder and retractable powder brush for when
I start to look shiny at about 2am
- silver pen and business-card sized pieces of black or maroon card for
writing down my web address, phone number, etc.

Photograph self
|

|
I sometimes photograph my eyes to see which eyeshadow looks
best, for future reference.

Final check
|
1
|
a final check that everything's in place before I leave the
house.
