Home Glossary Disclaimer Site map	The map below shows the locations of beats in inner Melbourne. Click here to see beats in inner Melbourne. Their locations have been derived from a number of sources, including well-known cruising web sites. Beats are colour-coded by type. Here are some stand-out points: 1. there seem to be more beats at parks in the eastern suburbs, whereas southern suburbs beats are more often at public toilets, 2. there are fewer beats in the western suburbs than the city's population distribution would suggest. This may be because people in the west are less likely to use the internet and therefore western suburbs beats are not posted on gay cruising sites. 3. although there are many beats in the inner city, the Prahran/St Kilda area has relatively few beats despite its reputation as a gay stronghold. Fitzroy/Collingwood and the inner northeast areas have more. 4. look at the density of beats in the southern and eastern suburbs.
