Please note that I have not personally been to all of these venues, and I have not checked that all of them are still operating. It would be worth confirming with the venue before venturing forth. See also my nightlife reviews page.

tick of approval
Abode St Kilda Rd, St Kilda
Fantastic pansexual nightclub. Holds various events such as play parties, mainly-female nights, etc. Some nights seem to be members-only. The physical environment is really funky too.
tick of approval Diva Bar
Commercial Rd, South Yarra Quite small venue, but no cover charge. The drag show on the night I went was really entertaining, if occasionally a little tasteless (but what's a drag show without a bit of bad taste?). Unfortunately there weren't a heap of tgirls there the night I went, but I left around midnight and they may have come out to play later.
tick of approval Xchange Hotel Commercial Rd, South Yarra Diverse clientele, with shows Wednesday > Sunday. A small number of tgirls, some really hot, were there on the Saturday night I went. I felt quite at home here. Click for their door policy.

The Peel
Cnr Peel & Wellingston Sts, Collingwood
Gay-oriented pub/nightclub; imagine the Xchange and the Market combined. There's a couple of bars, pool tables, and a chillout zone. Upstairs there's apparently a men- only cruising area, which I didn't see. Quite good music, and a friendly atmosphere.

Pink Newmarket Hotel, Inkerman Street, St Kilda Drag shows on Saturday nights. Quite a few tgirls were there the night I went. Quieter venue where you could meet someone and get to know them a bit, without having to scream 'sorry?' after every sentence because the music's too freakin' loud.

Market Hotel
Commercial Rd, South Yarra Thursdays, Saturdays. I may have missed something, but to be honest the Market didn't really grab me all that much. My friend and I were the only tgirls there when we went. The light show was pretty cool, but I didn't like the crowd as much.

Templebar Precinct
Smith St, Collingwood
Drag shows Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (?). I've been here for lunch many times, but never after dark.

Greyhound Hotel
Brighton Rd (St Kilda Rd), St Kilda
Gay and lesbian club with drag shows. The night I went I thought it was a bit crowded, but the clientele were very friendly. I went as a guy, and felt waaay more at home here than in straight bars/clubs.

Sircuit Smith St, Fitzroy

This is a gay men's bar, and not tranny-friendly Wed-Sat. Free entry  except  for special events; bar area, free pool tables, maze/cruise area movie lounge. Not visited yet.

Candy Bar
Greville St, Prahran
Nightclub/bar, with a bit of restaurant thrown in; drag shows on Monday nights. I've been a couple of times and always found it to be very good, in particular the music on Saturday nights.

Girl Bar
Prince of Wales Hotel, Fitzroy St, St Kilda
Lesbian venue (boys are welcome too), third Friday of the month

Commercial Hotel
Whitehall St, Yarraville
Thursdays. Not visited yet.

DT's Hotel
Church St, Richmond
Saturday night. Not visited yet.

Laird Hotel
Abbotsford
Well-known mainly-men bar and leather venue, although not especially tgirl-friendly.

Muse Bar
Inkerman St, St Kilda
Friday nights. Not visited yet- they're always bloody closed for a private function whenever I go!

Shed 16
Camberwell Dve, Seaford
Not visited yet.

Star Hotel
Hoddle St, Collingwood
Various shows including the Lotus Club night (Asian performers) and drag kings. Not visited yet.

Cabaret Nocturne
Dream Nightclub, Queensberry St, Carlton Friday nights; friendly goth club. Not a particularly CD/TV venue, but they seemed quite accepting when I went there (admittedly briefly). You probably want to be dressed in goth style.
