There is a
group of events which are alternative in nature, and include various
expressions of sexuality, but which fall outside traditional categories
of party. Although they share many charactertistics with a swingers
party, they are more social in nature; you might say that they're sexy
parties, but not sex parties. They may have some or all of the
following characteristics:
- they require erotic and/or fancy dress. As a general rule, street wear is not appropriate,
- they take

- they are held on an infrequent basis (quarterly at most),
- single guys are often limited in number or not admitted,
- they
attract larger numbers of people than would fit in a house party, and
- they may or may not include/allow various adult activities such as stage shows and/or play on the premises.

Such events
can be a [relatively]
high-profile part of the alternative-lifestyle scene; many more people
in the community would have heard of the Hookers & Deviates Ball
than of, say, Club Gemini. They are generally also somewhat
commercialised.

Mardi Gras event held on the NSW October long weekend (whatever that
is). I have no idea whether this is in fact an erotic event or not; I
assume so from its name, but I'm not really sure, to be honest. |
