AMM Drinks
Basically this is a chance for Adult MatchMaker (AMM) members, and like-minded others, to meet in person in a safe real-world environment. I arrived more or less on time, and there were maybe 50- 100  people already present. I had another engagement later in the evening, so I had to leave at about 10.15pm. This was unfortunate, because by the time I left there were probably 300 people all having a very good time. There were several familiar faces from around the scene, and most people were quite friendly. Because of the door policy, which understandably limits single guys, to me this appeared to be a mainly-MF-couples evening. It was also a little straighter than I'd hoped; I was the only tranny there, although a friend of mine did go after I left. They did have a cross with some BDSM play going on upstairs. The one amusing aspect to the evening was that on entry everyone was given an (optional) name tag to wear, with their AMM username. This means that I spent the evening conversing with people like 'hot_bunny_kate72' and 'Gary_n_Eliza' rather than simply 'Kate' or 'Gary' and 'Eliza'.

One of the organising team mentioned that she had a gay friend who might be coming along, who might be interested in me. I think she was trying to make me feel included, which was both a nice thing to do, and successful. From her facial expression I suspect she was slightly taken aback when she discovered that guys aren't necessarily my first choice. The remainder of the organising team were both friendly and seemed to have their act together; the whole thing was run very professionally. In contrast to some venues, I was pleased to see that security was immediately identifiable and constantly visible, but unobtrusive.

All in all, despite having to leave soon after I arrived I quite enjoyed myself, and I'll be curious to see how the next one turns out later in the evening.

Positives: lots of people (but mostly MF couples), social atmosphere, music not too loud, very inclusive and friendly organisers
Negatives: a tiny bit straighter than I'd ideally like, but not badly so. I could also imagine that some people might possibly have been a bit tipsier later on than they were when I left.

Kat Klub
The Kat Club is organised by Kitten and Angel, two women who seem to be associated with AMM Drinks. After an apparent hiatus, their first party back was held in a King Street strip club. While the prospect of an adult party in a strip club may have seemed edgy and attractive, in fact I don't think the venue helped things because, to my mind, strip clubs just come across as sleazy rather than sexy. In fact, I find them quite depressing; while I am a huge fan of sleaze in the right context, this wasn't it (I think it's something to do with the idea of paying to watch, without getting to play, that I find odd). Having said that, I probably wasn't in an appropriate frame of mind to be a flighty little minx that evening anyway because it was a few days before I was due to move house, and I'd spent the day packing my wardrobe, then my other wardrobe, then my crockery, etc. This review is therefore probably unreliable to begin with.

I essentially spent the evening talking to a couple I knew and a small number of other people. However, I did observe that many other people did seem to be having a very good time. Some commented that they thought it was a bit quiet (well, it's their first party after a break, so what do you expect?) but others genuinely seemed to be having a good time. One of the more entertaining conversation-starters was trying to guess which of the pole dancers were employees of the establishment and which were simply scantily-clad partygoers.

I had also been concerned about the King Street location, as King St has a reputation for violence. However, I did not feel unsafe either going to (~10.30pm) or from (~1.30am) the venue. The 24hr secure car park on Flinders Lane near Spencer Street is also highly recommended.

Sexpo: the Club X Health, Sexuality, and Lifestyle Expo
I know that Sexpo isn't an adult party or anything like that, but I didn't have anywhere else to put the review...
Sexpo is something you should go to every second year. If you went every year, you'd quickly become jaded and cynical about the whole thing. Essentially, Sexpo is the Herald-Sun reader's version of sex: lacking substance, juvenile, and very, very mainstream. I'd hoped that it might have lifted itself above lowest-common-denominator stuff in the two years since I'd last attended, but sadly no. I unfortunately missed the Marquis de Sade stage show, which is always worth a look. I arrived just at the end, and in doing so I suspect I may have missed the best bit of Sexpo. The exhibition space is filled with a variety of stalls, including lots of lingerie and sex toys. Oddly, there are also a variety of other exhibitors, including wineries, hire-car companies, and paintball/skirmish outfits. There were very few community groups or government departments, and it was disappointing that there was no presence from health authorities. The amateur striptease competition was quite entertaining, and I must congratulate some of the less classically- handsome gentlemen for participating.

A couple of points I noticed:
- there was a very wide variety of clothing on sale, 90% of it for females (and the male clothing seemed to consist mainly of t-shirts bearing smart-alec slogans or logos),
-
the young lady in hot-pants with 'punani' printed across the bum who compered the amateur strip competition might one day discover that the rest of stopped finding rude words in other languages funny at about the age of thirteen,
- as in previous years, there was a ghost train- style show ride called the Gerbil down the back. I find the name of this ride slightly  offensive; I won't go into precisely what sexual activities (according to urban myth) one can participate in with a gerbil, but there's nothing funny about animal cruelty and it's also a little homophobic.
