Saunas are commercial premises available for men to meet and have sex with other men. There are also a number of video lounges or backrooms located in adult bookshops which serve a similar function; the Ram Lounge chain is one example. The video lounges are smaller, with fewer guys (and therefore less chance of finding someone compatible) but are cheaper than, say, Steamworks.

I do not attend saunas much these days, although I used to before I was out. They are relatively discreet and depending on the time you go there is a reasonable prospect of finding a compatible partner. My major concern (and it may be paranoid, but I don't care) is that a warm, moist space is likely to breed all kinds of bacteria, fungi, etc. If you plan to go it might be worth covering any cuts or scrapes with a waterproof covering, and disinfecting any body piercings afterwards. Sexually- transmitted infections are also a worry; a recent study of men attending sex on premises venues (quoted in the Victorian Government STI strategy) found 1.8 per cent of urine specimens and 5.9 per cent of rectal specimens tested positive for chlamydia.
